It may be because I used to use the Zenit plus this lens a lot before, but I feel the Helios lens gives you back that analog film feel with its backgrounds and natural vignette. If I were asked what modification of the Helios-44 lens I kept for myself, then my choice would have stopped at one of the first Helios-44 lenses with a. I’ve taken a few examples to showcase the main reason you buy this lens the swirly bokeh effect! I won’t bore you with the technical specs regarding the optical vignette and such like and get to the good bit. It doesn’t have fancy image stabilisation, auto focus or any of your modern luxuries but the results are fricken cool for a simplistic old russian lens. With the added bonus of it being a tad cheaper than film. Little did I know that many moons later, i’d be stealing the lens off of it to put on my Canon 6D.Īfter stumbling across a M42 to EOS adapter for mere pennies, I couldn’t wait to try and replicate the images I used to achieve with my Zenit.
